I’m guessing the first half will go by rather fast and then I’ll try and ration out the last half for as long as I can manage. And it’s going to be difficult to not just drink through all of it quickly because I love it.

So, yeah, I’m really happy that I finally got my hands on a case of this. But if you don’t mind it, you might not even really notice it at all, even more than me. If you’re averse to the taste, it might not be for you. It has a twinge of “diet soda” flavor, but if I didn’t know better, I’m not 100% sure I’d guess that it was in there. This is going away fairly quickly and doesn’t have that sort of “acrid” taste that other aspartame sodas can have. I had a diet Sprite just the other day and that aftertaste could last almost an hour. I really dig it.Īnd like the rest of the Energy line, yes, there is some aspartame aftertaste, but I’ve always felt that it is much more muted compared to other aspartame-sweetened drinks. It starts out with that sweet, pungent grape and then slowly mellows out to tart lime.

Meanwhile, I like that the flavor has a bit more of an evolution to it (sorry, been watching a lot of How to Drink lately). I’ve read some posts where people aren’t a fan of that. Like with this latest version of Pitch Black, the Energy version also transforms into this bit of a citrus taste at the end, mostly lime to me. Sure, Dew is usually a kick in the tongue, but it’s like, “Grape!” whereas most artificially-flavored grape stuff is, “GRAPE!!!!!” if you catch my drift. But I don’t tend to like most artificial grape because I feel it very much punches you in the face with it. It’s artificial grape, there’s no questioning that. I think it’s cool.Īs for the flavor… *sip* … Oooooh yeah, that’s the stuff… Pitch Black is one of my top 5 favorite Dew flavors. I do also like how the top of the fizz always turns a bit more blue than the deep, deep purple of the soda. And it has that same “artificial grape” smell, along with just an extra bit of citrus that this latest incarnation of Pitch Black has with it as well. Waddyagonnado?Īnyway, before I can give this a real taste, I need to get it out of the can. Thankfully, I can still get Kickstart, but I prefer Energy. Unfortunately, my Kroger and Publix rarely have it on the shelf. So, it’s my favorite of the Mountain Dew lines. It’s honestly right up my alley, as it’s sort of designed for people who want a soda in the morning instead of coffee or tea, but also don’t want to bomb their system with a load of sugar. It’s got added Zinc, as well as Vitamins A & C. It uses a base of white grape juice, so there’s some sugar, but the rest is sweetened with aspartame. It’s sort of like the Kickstart line in that it’s less sugar. it showed up yesterday and so now that it’s cold, I’m gonna give it a try.Ī small refresher on the Energy Line: It was originally the Rise Energy line. So, finally, I bit the bullet and bought a case online. However, despite going to 3 different grocery stores over the course of several weeks, I never saw it for sale.
#Mountain dew white out vs pitch black code#
Considering my love of Pitch Black and how much I loved the Energy version of Code Red, I was really excited to give this one a go. I’d wanted to do this one a while ago, but I couldn’t find it anywhere! What is it? Well, when Mountain Dew announced they were coming back out with Pitch Black for a limited time, they also announced an Energy version of it.
